Home Health China:
The first thing to check out is this podcast that features Benjamin Shobert talking about his experiences in the China home healthcare space. We’re told it’s rather good.
Also, we’ve written tw other helpful articles on home health care in China, both from the beginning of 2014. The information there is more general – we couldn’t talk directly about our project engagements at that time – but the articles provide helpful context for how to conceptualize home health care within global developments in the home health industry. So please see:
- "Cracking Home Care in China"
- “Creating a Home Healthcare Industry for China”
- “Home Healthcare in China – What’s Driving Development?”
Finally, we actually have a seven part series on home health in China:

Home Health India:
We took on a couple of projects in India in 2015 and 2016, and as a result we have started writing more about the home health market there. We even did a project for Bayada, which taught us a lot. Below you can find some of the articles we wrote on India home health strategies and industry developments.
When we talk about cracking home care in China, we mean we've cracked the market Over the last five years, we have been involved in half a dozen home care projects of various types across China. Some of our clients’ business models are personal caregiving, and some have higher acuity more medical home care as an essential part of their platform. But regardless of the type of home care company we have helped, and no matter their respective care continuum, a number of issues continue to be problematic. What follows is a top-level review of the … [Read more...] about Cracking Home Care in China
China Senior Care Equipment and E-Commerce Has Long Been An Opportunity In a story originating at the Nikkei Asian Review, five Japanese companies, including Sugahara, have partners with the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce and a local Chinese company to sell Japanese-manufactured (my assumption) nursing home equipment online. The group has very aggressive growth plans for its China senior care equipment e-commerce product line, per the Nikkei:The Chinese company will set up a new website and the necessary logistics network. The new … [Read more...] about China Senior Care Equipment and E-commerce
Last week a column caught my eye about a small California senior living company that had been approached by a large Chinese developer to run their senior living operation. Written by a regional newspaper, the column was ostensibly designed more to capture the oddity of getting a phone call out of the blue from China, targeted at a relatively small, regional player in the American senior living space. The article was not intended to be a thorough investigation of whether or not it made sense for this operator to pursue such an opportunity; … [Read more...] about A Couple of Different Ways to China
2016 has gotten off to a roaring start, and one particular project has reminded me of how rewarding it is to work with a home care provider that is being proactive in the development of their China strategy. In this particular case, we are interacting with a management team that has worked through whether they should be in China, come to a preliminary decision that yes, they have the bandwidth to support such an expansion, but then recognized they need to have a well defined launch strategy. This isn't always how things work: many times we … [Read more...] about Getting Started As a Foreign Home Care Provider in China
While China's FDI catalog has been updated to by and large address the challenges foreign companies and investors have deploying capital and know-how into the country, the supporting regulatory system around healthcare services delivered within senior living facilities remains a problem. In particular, the overlap between delivering healthcare services by nurses and dispensing of medications within assisted living and skilled nursing facilities is more difficult than it needs to be. These problems are particularly an issue for home healthcare … [Read more...] about Integrating Senior Care & Healthcare in China
